Sandman’s list of crap that I want for my birthday
6 09 2008So I’ve been trying to come up with ideas for things to post about on my recently not dead anymore blog. Between cycling between youtube videos and post about myself I stumbled upon the great idea of doing another post about myself (Genius.) Well my second birthday is coming up (the first being about April. 30th) and below I have a list of things that I would like to receive for my birthday (but most likely won’t get). I’ve taken the time categorize them into 3 sections.
1. Stuff that’s cheap that I’ll probably get by I can go either way on if I want them or not.
2. Stuff that I want. Like bad.
3. Stuff that I really really want like really really bad but probably won’t get
Zune Dock
This fits snugly into category 1. I’m actually pretty iffy on this one. In one way I really need a dock because I would use my Zune more at home. As opposed to it collecting dust. The one major reason I really do need the dock is I need some way to connect my Zune to my home stereo system. Now as much as I really want the Zune Dock I really don’t want to pay for it.
Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice
This also fits into category 1. This new Disgaea looks pretty badass. However no matter how good it looks I honestly don’t feel like paying for it.
Okami/Ico
A little selfish of me but I want both of them. Together. As a package. I never finished Ico nor Okami so I want to complete what I didn’t years ago. I feel like if someone got me one of them for my birthday it would be like getting half a gift. This is category 2 for those keeping count.
In the Wee Small Hours
The only thing on this list that you could find for free (doesn’t count if I find it first). It’s one of Frank Sinatra’s classic albums that I don’t already own. An original LP would be fine or a CD or even an Mp3. As long as I have the album that’s all that really matters to me. Category 1.
Rock Band 2/Guitar Hero: World Tour
Either one of these would be fine by me. The only thing I want is the drum sets of either on the 360. I have debated with myself on which these I want more but I have yet to come up with a decision. Until then the drums from Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero: World Tour is good for me. This is a category 3 so I’ll take what I can get (even the original Rock Band).
Akai MPD24 MIDI Pad Control Surface
It’s really pricey but it would help my beat making a ton. As of now the one major problem I have in making beats is the fact that I have a hard time with my timing. In music timing is everything. It’s pretty hard for me to make a simple 8 bar pattern sometimes just because of the fact that it sounds too fast or too slow. This is where the MPD comes in. Instead of putting the times on the computer I could just hit the buttons when I should and everything would fit in. The MPD would also help with sequencing samples (which I have yet to do but if I want to produce like Premier or J Dilla I should start soon). This is most definetly category 3.
Heroes Season 2
I would like to have this on Blu-Ray because of two reasons. First, I want to see Heroes season 2 before I watch season 3 (although thats pretty hard because of my birthday). Second, I don’t own any Blu-Ray DVD’s. This is category 2.
disclaimer: There are a few things that I want but neglect to mention because of scheduling issues and they will be posted on a later date (hmmm christmas maybe?). Also there was pictures to accompany everything but WordPress seems to be having it’s monthly premenstral syndrome and it won’t correctly put the image how I want it so sadly all you get is text.
Update 1: My best friend Sheldon found the album in like 8 minutes.

I’m truly strange
22 08 2008For some odd reason I have been having the urge to play the strangest games (it’s not the games that are strange just the urge to play them). One day during the summer I awoke and I really, really wanted to play Sonic. I spent a hour and a half looking for a Genesis emulater (for my hacked PSP of course) so I can play Sonic. Then about 2 days ago I really wanted to play Mega Man so I downloaded a PSX rom (again for my PSP) and I downloaded the Mega Man collection. For those of you out there that don’t know there is a mega man collection on the PSX. Now I really want to play Okami and Ico. I got half way through Okami but then I lost it and with Ico I played it once but I only played it for 20 minutes.
Normally I have no problems satisfying my cravings to play these games but I know once I start playing the games then I know I won’t finish. I do this all the time. There are rare cases when I don’t do it however, for example in 2006 I wanted to replay Ocarina of Time and I got some collectors edition of it somewhere. I finished all of Ocarina of Time. In another occasion I am currently right now playing Chrono Trigger on my PSP (yeah I know PSP’s are frickin awesome). However you can make an exception for both of these games because they are my two favorite games of all time (it’s a tie for #1 I can never choose). So I will most likely play Okami over and not finish it and as for Ico, if I find it I will beat it.
So on another subject (I feel like writing today
) did anyone catch the news about the new PSP. At the Leipzig Game Convention Sony unveiled the PSP-3000. It’s called the 3000 because the first model of the PSP was called the PSP-1000 series and the slim PSP (which I own) is called the PSP-2000 series. It’s derived from the model number. Well if your wondering about features, the new PSP has an anti glare screen and a microphone. Thats it. No new analog stick or touchscreen or anything important. They might as well should have named this PSP the “PSP temporarily unhackable version”. $10 says Dark Alex hacks it before November.

Alright so I have a problem
8 08 2008Anyone who knows me personally knows that I rarely listen to anything outside of hip-hop. It’s not that I dislike everything not hip-hop its just that I honestly don’t know where to start when trying out new things. Also if I do leave my little rap music comfort zone I don’t stray far enough to justify listening to a new type of music. For example I love the house/electro music band Justice. I have there CD and I have downloaded over 20 remixes they’ve made but after them I don’t think I listen to any other house band. Except for Daft Punk (don’t know how I forgot them).
So recently I’ve gone to my best friend Kevin (who I acquired my taste of hip-hop from) about good bands. He suggested a crap load of bands that I should listen to (although its gonna take a while for me to get around to downloading most of em). So since I’ve haven’t told you the whole point of this blog post is this. I found a band that I want to listen to.

The OneUps Volume 1
There a band from Fayetteville, Arkansas by the name of “The OneUps”. They are a jazz/funk band that covers old video game songs. I mean to me that is perfect. I listen to funk and jazz sometimes to sample music from. I also love video game music (which I also love to sample). I mean I recognize all the songs that they covered on their myspace.
The one major problem is I can’t find there album anywhere on the internets. I mean I looked for hours. I’ve checked torrents, album download sites (albumhunt, albumwash, etc.) even *shudders* Limewire. I would just buy it but I’ve had bad expierences online buying albums that I really want (”The Art of One Mind” by Symbolyc One and illmind) and I’ve had good expierences (”Connected” by Foreign Exchange). Both of those albums were so hard to find that I bought them and I was throughly disapointed with one and I loved the second so I’m not sure if I want to buy the album just to be disapointed and not like it. But maybe I should just go with my gut and buy it. Or if anyone out there has a link that would be appreciated (if I like it then I will most definetly buy Volume 2, which should be out September 2nd).

American Gangster Remixes
22 12 2007Lately I have been addicted to these things. Releasing the accapella version of his album is on the smartest things Jay have ever done. I have listened to “American Gangster” more than any other album this year.
Not because its the album of the year (that honor will most likely go to The Cool or Below the Heavens imo) but because I can hear different takes on the album by various producers. So far my two favorites are The Hannibal King’s “Jay-Z vs. Sinatra: American Gangsters” and Kid Konnect’s “Nigerian Gangster”. Hannibal King blended Jay and Sinatra perfectly. Somewhat reminiscent of that Biggie mixtape that came out a few years back. The Nigerian Gangster mix of the album brings a new spin the remix. It adds an African flavor to the Jay accapella. I would provide the link but these albums are pretty easy to find on the internets so there is pretty much no point really. I’m still waiting for one of my favorite producers to remix the album. Someone like 9th wonder or Kno (who’s Kno vs. Hov The White al-bu-lum was my favorite Black Album remix ever).
You might be wondering “Sandman, why haven’t you made a remix to Jay accapella?” For the zero people out there that actually asked that question I have. Peep the soundclick for Sandman’s remix to Jay-Z’s “Sweet”. It’s the first remix I have ever made. I also kick off my music myspace with that remix. Yes I know what I said earlier about not making a music myspace but the demand was too high for me to just ignore it. What am I kidding myself, I made it out of boredom. The link will be included on the link section. I will also add the link to two of my favorite blogs on the blogroll and the link to my soundclick in the link section (which I totally forgot to do for months). Please give some feedback on my blog or add my myspace (I could use some more fans). More posts coming soon, I’m on winter break.
